About

Hello! My name is Margaret. I’m a wife, mom of 2 boys, and a marketer turned teacher. I’ve been teaching for 11 years and I LOVE this vocation of teaching. Welcome to my page as I share my journey as a teacher, as well as practical resources and ideas that you can implement in your own classroom or home.

Wait, teaching isn’t your first career?

Teaching isn’t my first career. I went to business school (Schulich School of Business at York University) and majored in marketing. Why business school? I wanted to gain some real-life experience working in another industry - all skills and experiences I knew would transfer into the classroom and school setting. After 3 years, I left the corporate world to follow my dream. And what a dream come true it has become!

11 years? What have you taught so far?

In my 11 years of teaching, I’ve taught Instrumental Music, English as a Second Language, and Grades4, 5 & 6 and in three schools so far!

Growing up as a 2nd gen immigrant has taught me a lot about teaching. . .

I’ve lived and experienced that this profession of teaching is constantly changing - as it should. Growing up as a Chinese Canadian, I attended Chinese school and Saturday math class where the unique East Asian cultural importance and style of education made an impression on me. Couple that with being in the western teaching style and I see the importance of regular practice, critical thinking, and confidence. I bring to my home and classroom these experiences and learnings.

And here are some fun facts!

  • I’ve played the violin since I was 7. I started taking piano lessons in January 2021 and love it - I wish I had listened to my parents as a kid and taken up piano . . . #mamasalwaysright
  • My fashion style when people ask - comfortable with a splash of Mariah Carey
  • I drink water - no caffeine for me!
  • I want to make a difference - and believe you can, too
